G. P. Traps L. L. C. Start up information:
All G. P. machines are test fired with White Flyer targets from Webb City, Mo.
1) Uncrate and inspect machine for any shipping damage. Be sure all cable ties and packing materials are removed, so machine will operate correctly.
2) Bolt on front hoop. DO NOT operate machine without front hoop in place.
3) When mounting machine in a trap house, be sure your pedestal is strong enough to support machine. Make sure that the magazine does not touch the trap house roof. You need approximately 36 inches clearance from top of the pedestal to the trap roof. (See figure 2.) If mounting on trailer make, sure trap machine is securely bolted down and oscillating movement is not restricted.
4) Trap Motor: 110v trap motor will draw 2 AMPS when in use. The 110v service needs to have a disconnect so power can be shut off. You should unplug machine when not in use. Lightning can damage electric box and void warranty. All motors used by G. P. Traps are D.C. motors.
5) Horizontal motor (or oscillating motor) gets power from the 110 v. power cord. When oscillating motor is running the motor draws less than 2 AMPS.
6) Excessive moisture or floodwaters can damage motor/gearbox assembly and void warranty.
7) There are two (2) toggle switches on the front of the gray control box. One is for the trap motor and the other is for oscillation motor. See figure 1.
8) Release cord or remote receiver furnished by G. P. Traps. See Release/Control Circuit diagram.
9) When turning machine off or to release throwing arm, set both toggle switches down to off position and depress black release button on gray control box to clear throwing arm. Throwing arm will release and last target will be thrown. BEWARE OF LAST TARGET THROWN. See figure 1.
10) The black push-button on side of gray control box allows you to bump or move your horizontal motor from side to side. This will allow easy set up of field and angle adjustments. Always oscillate machine first before turning trap motor to "on" position, to check for adequate clearances. (Check clearance between magazine and trap house roof. Also check clearance completely around machine and trap house.) Use black push-button to perform this function. See figure 1.
11) When filling magazine with targets or to service machine, make sure throwing arm is released and 110v is disconnected from power source.

Make sure you have trap machine bolted down securely. Set both switches to the on position. The trap motor will cock machine and horizontal motor will start oscillating. The trap machine will oscillate and interrupt during use; after 60 seconds of non-use it will stop oscillating and will be dormant. The machine will start oscillating again when release button is depressed. Time delays are factory set to have five (5) time delays in 60 seconds. There is a time delay relay and a one shot timer that perform these functions. These functions are independently programmable. Instructions are on components for custom programming.
Installation and operation procedures:
1) Check your A.T.A. regulations to be sure your existing trap layout is staked properly with the correct measurements for proper angle and distance. This will assure you correct target presentation.
2) The base plate design will allow you to install in any existing trap house. Position the trap base straight out, or squarely with front of trap house. Base plate needs to be bolted down securely to existing pedestal. Make sure existing pedestal is level and existing studs are securely attached. A loose base plate causes unnecessary vibration and target consistency is affected. Check base plate bolts frequently for tightness. See figures 2 and 3.
3) Plug power cord from gray control box into 110 v. power source.
4) Connect release cord or remote receiver with release socket located on cord out of gray control box.
5) Setting the field: By using the horizontal motor push button (See figure 1), move the machine to throw five (5) left angles and then throw five (5) right angles. To move the full field right or left, loosen both jam nuts and turn hand knob on the connecting rod. This rod connects the slotted arm collar on gearbox to tab on vertical upright. After adjustments are made, tighten both jam nuts. This adjustment moves entire field to the left or to the right. This enables you to center your field from your trap house. ¾” wrench is needed for jam nuts. See figure 4.
Figure 4 6) To adjust the amount of angle of field: To widen or narrow your full field, loosen ½” bolt through slotted arm collar and adjust the rod on top of the oscillation motor towards the center to narrow, away to widen. This adjustment makes your angle open or closed. This adjustment replaces the 2-3-4 hole settings on other models. ¾” wrench is needed for adjusting ½” bolt. See figure 5. Figure 5 7) Adjusting Target Height: Target height is adjusted from the rear of the machine with the ratchet on the back right side of the machine. See figure 6.
8) Adjusting Cant of Bird: Target leveling is adjusted with the forward vertical ratchet on the right side of machine. Adjusting ratchet raises or lowers right side of main body. This adjustment enables you to present a level or flat type target. See figure 6.

9) To adjust target distance: At the rear of the machine is a spring knob connected to the main spring. Loosen the retaining nut on the inside of the bracket. Tighten knob to lengthen target distance. Loosen knob to shorten target distance. Make sure nut on inside of bracket is tightened. ALWAYS make sure spring knob is tight. There needs to be 3 to 4 threads sticking through adjustment knob to assure spring has no slack in it. A loose main spring causes unnecessary vibration. If main spring adjustment becomes loose and falls off, your machine could be damaged. Black springs are standard on all ATA models.
10) After use of the machine or when reloading targets, set both toggle switches to off position and depress the release button on gray control box to clear throwing arm. REMEMBER, LAST TARGET WILL BE THROWN!
11) Don't try to load targets in machine while it is oscillating. Trapper can easily hit targets on side of magazine tubes and crack or fatigue targets. A cracked target in the magazine will become a broken target when thrown. Broken targets out of machine will cause everyone involved to be dissatisfied.
12) Always release throwing arm and disconnect power when servicing or adjusting machine.
13) Always disconnect power when not in use, electric storms/spikes can damage control box.
14) Post all literature informing personnel about trap machine operation before servicing or loading targets.
15) Please call before making any major adjustments.
16) THINK SAFETY FIRST!
17) Call for optional equipment.

POST INSIDE TRAP HOUSE WHEN STARTING
BE SURE TRAP MACHINE IS OFF AND THROWING ARM IS CLEARED BEFORE LOADING TARGETS.
1. Fill machine with targets.
2. Plug in 110 volt electrical cord into power source and pullers cord (Release Cord).
3. STAND CLEAR.
4. Set both toggle switches to "on" position. This will turn trap motor and oscillating on.
5. You are now ready to throw targets.
WHEN CLOSING
1. STAND CLEAR.
2. When turning machine off or to release throwing arm, set both toggle switches down to off position and depress black release button on gray control box to clear throwing arm. Throwing arm will release and last target will be thrown. BEWARE OF LAST TARGET THROWN.
3. Unplug 110 volt electrical cord from power source. Always disconnect power when not in use, electric storms/spikes can damage control box.
